Before going to see about migration guide to 3G  for Reliance subscribers, lets clarify CDMA 3G vs GSM 3G and  which one you need to select.

Reliance CDMA 3G vs GSM 3G

Reliance offering mobile broadband services to its subscribers using two different technologies. For  CDMA subscribers, using EVDO technology called Reliance broadband+ and GSM HSPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Acces) . These 2 technologies are not interchangeable that means GSM subscribers can’t use EVDO and CDMA subscriber can’t use HSPA technology.

So question is which one you need to select ?

In your circle, if Reliance offering both 3G and EVDO then,  I suggest GSM 3G only. In case no 3G license for Reliance then no other choice other than their EVDO services.

Disadvantages of Reliance CDMA 3G or EVDO based service:

• Speed, up to today, EVDO is offering  max 3.1 Mbps where as GSM 3G up to 21 Mbps.
• Cost, With GSM 3G you can purchase any  unlocked feature rich data card, CDMA 3G you need to purchase feature limited vendor provided hardware only.
• In future, we can expect development in GSM 3G technology only .
• GSM 3G, much variety of data plans exists than CDMA 3G
• GSM 3G you can make voice calls from your  laptop using data card. You can send SMS from laptop.
  

As pr me, migration to 3G GSM is much better than using EVDO technology or CDMA 3G.

Ok, lets see how to migrate to  GSM 3G in Reliance netowrk.

1.Purchase usb data card. I suggest you to purchase unlocked data card than Reliance provided data card.  You can read my post about unlocked data card advantage here

2.Purchase Reliance 3G Sim, it costs you 40/- activate desired  data plans. You can see more details about Reliance GSM 3G plans here.

3.Install USB data card on your laptop and configure with these Reliance APN settings.
