ow to select best online backup service provider or cloud backup service provider?
Before signup for any online backup service, first fix on your need – online backup or online archive service.
Online backup vs online archive
Online Backup service – Service providers like Crash plan,Backblze provides online backup services. You need to install software provided by them on your pc and rest it will take care. What ever data selected from your PC, will get backed up online.You can’t insert files which are not on your PC to online backup archive. If you remove files on your PC same thing reflected online based on retention period. For example you have movie abc.mpg on your pc and same is getting backed up everyday. You removed it from your PC and same file under goes deletion based on retention period provided by your service provider. For example retention period is days, once you removed file from your PC same file deleted from online back server after days.
So check about retention period with your online backup service provider before sign up.
Online archive service:- Example 4shared, Adrive.Using this service, you can upload what ever files you want to online backup servers irrespective they exists on your PC or not. You can send backups from any PC and no restriction per PC based like online backup service providers mentioned above. even if you remove files on your PC which are backed up by using online archive service still your backup of that file remains on remote backup servers.
Online archive services bit costly. But any way lets see, day by day cloud services becoming cheap as storage cost declining constantly.
