Step by step guide for building RHCSA lab for OPEN RHCSA tutorial – Lesson 4

Practice..practice and practice. This is the only mantra to obtain RHCSA Linux certification. So today’s lesson in OPEN RHCSA – RHCSA self study guide related to setting up our lab.

2 Linux systems with network connectivity is NOT enough

Notice: By this time, if you would have assumed that having 2 Linux systems or 2 Virtual Linux servers enough to practice then you are wrong. You should do all of practice in KVM based virtual Linux system not on your physical Linux box. It is one of RHCE certification objective.

PHYSICAL LINUX BOX — install KVM — build 2 KVM Linux virtual machines.

use those VMs for your practice. What ever commands we going to use in our RHCSA certification series, you must execute in those VMs only, not on physical Linux box.

You can use your laptop/desktop with 4 GB RAM [you need to install RHEL 6 as dual boot] or you can use VMWARE workstation 8 if you don’t want to dual boot. My other post about KVM under VMWARE can help you, if you want to use VMWARE.

Solution to run KVM inside Vmware guest nested vm

We can install and run KVM based virtual machines inside Vmware guests.Now using this nested VM method you can practice KVM using your laptop.No need to have dual boot or multiple systems. We going to use this method while building RHCSA lab for our RHCSA self study tutorial series.

I am using Vmware workstation 8 for this purpose. I am not sure about other Vmware products work with this trick.

1.While creating VM, select LSI logic SAS as storage controller.

2.Customize hardware – processor – select virtualize Intel VT-x/AMD-V.

3.Edit .VMX file and append following line.

apic.xapic.enabled = FALSE

Now start/reboot your VM. Now you can install KVM based vms in your VMWARE guest.

Today’s RHCSA study guide lesson, will provide you list of Linux flavors, from you can select any one for RHCSA lab.

1.Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.x. You can get 30 day free trial from Redhat.com. You can use this for your learning purpose. After 30 days OS will work but you won’t get updates from Red Hat network.

*** strictly personal that too learning purpose only.

2.CENT OS : CENTS OS is re compiled version of Red Hat Linux and 100% compatible with Red Hat Linux.You can get it from centos website

I prefer 2nd one. Please note, still many Linux distributions are there where you can use them for RHCSA lab.

In next lesson, will show you set up our RHCSA online lab step by step in video tutorial format.Once lab setup, we ready to go.I have designed RHCSA work book also.If all works fine, in next 30 days we can complete 50% of RHCSA objectives.

Today I am naming our free RHCSA certification preparation guide series as OPEN RHCSA series.While I am preparing for RHCSA, I am writing this series. RHCSA is not like other certifications. It is live system troubleshooting based. You need to study and practice a lot. My attempt is to provide systematic way and material in one place.

There is no prescribed book or material for RHCSA. You need to check official Red Hat documentation,third party books and many web resources. I will update this series timely with material details what I am following.

Open RHCSA is Live series. That means I am updating series everyday with that day learning of RHCSA. In next 60days I want to write RHCSA. So guys you can expect complete series in Next 60days.

Please fell free to share your ideas/material here. I will update site with due credits.One thing this course is not at all replacement for Red Hat official trainings.You can consider it as run book of student who wants to complete RHCSA in 60days .

Today in our RHCSA ( Red Hat certified System Administrator) certification tutorial,will discuss about RHCSA exam objectives,fee and books for reference.

I am assuming that you have at least 1 year Linux admin experience. If you are new to Linux then this tutorial may not that much helpful. But I am sure you can understand what going on here .

As I said in my first post of this RHCE certification preparation tutorial series, it is live training. What I am learning today, I am updating here. So please feel free to ask me if you have questions by dropping your comment.

You can read RHCE objectives directly from Red Hat.

RHEL Version 6.

RHCSA certification fee : $400

RHCSA books:

Various web resources and ebooks shared by great guys.

Now question is where to get RHEL 6 for RHCSA. No worry. No need to spend and complete free OS download available. I will show you in next post of RHCSA tutorial series.

Red Hat certifications are among most honored IT certifications. Red Hat certifications are real time based on live systems troubleshooting. You can’t pass exams with Red Hat certification dumps ( I hate dump concept. No dumps available for Red Hat certifications.)

Now I am going to present you series of RHCSA ( Red Hat certified System Administrator) certification) preparation guide for free. This series is very Live why because I am also preparing for this exam and every day I will update this series with that day learning of RHCSA.

How to execute command on multiple Linux servers at a time

Recently I am forced to check 95 Linux hosts /etc/resolv.conf file and record those entries in single file. Time is very less for this task. How to execute same command on multiple Linux hosts at a time? initially I start writing small shell script with while do loop. Later thought, lets check somebody already have solution on Google.

Bingo! I got excellent tool, in fact it is bundled in my Ubuntu laptop. Star program name is “DSH”. DSH means Distributed shell, or dancer’s shell.You can download source and more details from http://www.netfort.gr.jp/~dancer/software/dsh.html

DSH config file location : /etc/dsh/dsh.conf. Just fill the host names in /etc/dsh/machines.list or ${sysconfdir}/machines.list and start executing command on them at a time.

example : dsh -a — cat /etc/resolv.conf

Good tool for Sys Admins . Suggest me if you have any best for this purpose.

Object is to access windows xp from solaris and install virtual pcs.

First step – How to enable terminal services in windows xp pro ? as we know terminal services are only enables in windows server products. so as usual i did google and found hacks, out of them replacing DLL file and ‘terminalpatch’ from one russian site.But i din;t install them with fear of trojen or virus. So what i did …. see for my next post where you will get amazing free solution to access winodws xp terminal service.

Step two- we have n number of rdp clients for windows and linux but what about our solaris that to for user having no root access ? See my next for solution that also freeware
